Exploring the Manufacturing Process of Swage Nipples

As global industries demand more reliable and pressure-resistant piping solutions, swage nipples have emerged as a critical component in high-performance piping systems. Known for their role in connecting pipes of different sizes and withstanding high-pressure conditions, swage nipples are widely used in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and marine industries.

C.Z.IT DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD., a trusted name in the piping components industry , shares insights into the production process that ensures their swage nipples meet international standards and customer expectations.

Step-by-Step Swage Nipple Manufacturing Process

1. Material Selection:
The process begins with selecting high-quality raw materials such as stainless steel (e.g., 304, 316L), carbon steel, or alloy steel. Each batch is inspected to ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, and EN standards.

2. Cutting and Forging:
Steel bars or seamless pipes are cut to the desired length. Forging is performed to achieve the basic shape, enhancing the mechanical strength and grain structure. This is essential for ensuring pressure resistance and durability.

3. Machining and Shaping:
Using CNC machining, the swage nipple undergoes precision shaping. Tapered ends (plain, threaded, or beveled) are machined according to B16.11 or MSS SP-95 standards. This step guarantees dimensional accuracy and proper fit in pipeline systems.

4. Heat Treatment:
To improve mechanical properties and stress resistance, the nipple is subjected to heat treatment processes such as normalizing, annealing, or quenching and tempering, depending on the material grade and application.

5. Surface Treatment:
Surface finishes like sandblasting, pickling, or anti-rust oil coating are applied based on customer requirements. Stainless steel products may be passivated for improved corrosion resistance.

6. Testing and Inspection:
Each swage nipple undergoes rigorous quality control, including:

  • Dimensional checks

  • Hydrostatic pressure testing

  • Non-destructive testing (NDT)

  • Chemical and mechanical analysis

Inspection reports and mill test certificates (MTCs) are provided with each order.

7. Marking and Packaging:
Final products are laser marked or stamped with material grade, size, heat number, and standard. Products are carefully packaged in wooden cases or pallets to prevent damage during international shipment.

At C.Z.IT DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD., quality and customization are at the core of every product. The company has built a strong reputation among clients across Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East for delivering consistent and certified piping components.
